Recording and uploading video on mobile

Sharing video recorded from within the app (using the paperclip icon in a new comment) relies heavily on good internet connection, and DOES NOT SAVE the video if upload fails. This is a known issue and Jostle have committed to resolving it within the next 12-18 months. In the meantime…

Current recommendations for video sharing in the QS Community Forum:

  • record video outside of Jostle so that it's saved in case upload fails - consider changing your phone camera settings to a lower resolution to reduce file sizes (720p is often good enough).

  • keep it as short as possible (ideally <1min) to minimise file size

  • wait until on a good internet connection before uploading (good 4G connection minimum)

  • add a short comment when posting so that people can decide whether it's worth downloading / watching (ie respect others' time)

Note that we have still experienced some issues with uploading videos using this method. The smaller the file (ie the shorter the video) the more likely is success.

There are also several apps you can download that will compress the video, but this is an extra process after recording you may not want to do.

We’ll keep you updated as this functionality is improved.
