Early praise for ‘Farmers Finding Freedom’
“While still enjoying ‘Curiosity - Farmers Discovering What Works’ on a regular basis by being able to reread individual essays (or listen to the audiobook version) when specific points, strategies or wisdom shared by a diverse range of farmers, often it is also reading chapters by many I have had the pleasure of crossing paths with and admire for how they have addressed their resource concerns, in itself is a great resource and inspiration.
”To build upon this vast coalescence of knowledge with ‘Curiosity - Farmers Finding Freedom’ will further add a great quantity of thought-provoking ideas, advice and wisdom that can be applied to many facets of farm management and life. Curiosity, as defined in this book, will aid the reader to innovate most aspects of their enterprises or have the freedom and confidence that comes from knowing you’re on the right path with your own journey.
”It is great to see the robust conversations had among people at Curious Cockie farm visits or other field days facilitated by John and his thoughtful questions fastidiously compiled into book form for many others to enjoy.”

Praise for ‘Farmers Discovering What Works’
“These case studies are packed with lots of information and delivered it in an entertaining way. I'm sure farmers will find it all very useful. It has brought back to me what I loved about my job.”
Jon Morgan, retired journalist and last editor of ‘The New Zealand Farmer’
"It's short, less than 200 pages, but I found myself underlining and circling something in virtually every essay. It's dense, packed with sensible advice gleaned from dozens of on-farm experiments over numerous decades."
Joel Salatin, ‘Meadown Talk’ columnist
“At last: a book of pithy, hard-won experiences expertly garnered and filtered from thinking farmers who have learnt by having the courage to make mistakes. Admirably well written, this book ‘Curiosity - Farmers Discovering What Works’ is not just founded on the author’s practical experience, but also built on scientific training, sound economics, and an acutely observant eye that roams over dozens of excellent case-studies in different environments. Blended with the occasional brief essay about leading regenerative farming thinkers and scientists, the result is generously shared experience from some of New Zealand's top farmers - but seen, filtered and enhanced through the knowledgeable and holistic eye of the author.
“This invaluable and important book should be compulsory reading for anyone daring to manage farming landscapes with an eye to contributing to healthier farmscapes and catchments, rural families and their animals, and to a sustainable future. How I wish I could have read and lived in such a book as this when I was a young farmer preparing to make all the mistakes. A farming, social, and environmental gem.“
Charles Massy, author ‘Call of the Reed Warbler’ and ‘Breaking the Sheep’s Back’
