Sam Lang

Sam Lang in paddock | Quorum Sense

Sam Lang was a Quorum Sense team member until July 2023.

One of the first members of Quorum Sense’s Project Team, Sam Lang is also a 50/50 partner leasing a sheep, beef and arable block in the mid-Canterbury foothills with partner Sylvia and young daughter Orla.

With a diverse background ranging from environmental science and climate change to hill country farming in Hawke’s Bay, Sam’s 2016 Nuffield Scholarship study explored how we can better support rural communities through proactive sustainable farm systems change. During his global travel Sam was inspired by the results he saw where farmers had adopted biological/ecological/regenerative agricultural approaches, and he identified the importance of peer-to-peer support networks for helping farmers make big changes. Insights from this experience are a huge driver for his work on and off farm.

“As a farmer, I experience every day how the Quorum Sense network inspires, challenges and supports my ideas, knowledge and confidence. So I’m super motivated to help make this quality of support available to more farmers around the country!”

In his spare time Sam used to be found surfing, running, mountain biking (and various other outdoor pursuits) but now mostly hangs out with Orla : )
