Comparing winter crops – costs and inputs

The data below has been generated by Dylan Ditchfield using a mix of actual and estimated costs for the 2020/21 season.

* note some input costs have increased significantly since early 2021 and will impact on these figures.

Comparison of costs: kale vs multi-species winter crops

This table shows the relative inputs costs, yield and cost per kgDM for Dylan Ditchfield’s conventional kale crops versus multi species crops. While the yields of Dylans multi species crops are lower than monoculture kale, the cost per kgDM is significantly lower. This table does not factor in the value of any regrowth from the multi species crops after the initial grazing.

This table shows the relative inputs and yield for Dylan Ditchfield’s conventional kale crops versus multi species crops.
